Will Windows 7 Include a Hypervisor?
Well with Hyper-V now launched and System Centre Virtual machine Manager 2008 about to be released there seem to be no stopping Microsoft in it’s mission to conquer the Virtualization Market. Having worked with Hyper-V now for some time I think it rocks. It, like Windows Server 2008 is a solid piece of work. In terms of developments I am sure we will see the missing features lke Live Migration and Hot Add make a welcomed return in the not too distant future.
With ESX Server now free I sit here wondering how long it will be before VM Ware cave in. On saying that, they are keeping their heads well above the waterline at the moment. It’s also interesting to see that Microsoft have not announced any major plans for an upgrade to Virtual PC 2007. With most PCs now enjoying 64 bit architecture I guess it’s only a matter of time before we see a Hypervisor in Microsoft’s future clients, AKA Windows 7 and of course Windows Server 2008. On the subject of Windows 7 you will get a glimpse of the next generation of Microsoft OS this November at TechEd. Perhaps the sooner they brush the disappointing Vista episode under the carpet the better.
I must admit that after seeing Windows 7 in the flesh some of the developments look exciting and worthwhile. Anyway can’t say any more, NDA you know :0). Anyway watch this space for a full update on Windows 7 shortly.
